William Woodville (1752-1805), an English physician and early advocate of smallpox inoculation and vaccination, was also a botanist and member of the Linnaean Society.  His three-volume Medical Botany (1791-1793), illustrated by James Sowerby, describes the structure and medicinal uses for all the plants mentioned in the Royal College of Physicians of London and Edinburgh’s Materia Medica.
