This letter is probably only second in importance to the creation of Vanderbilt University, the first being the March 17th letter from Cornelius Vanderbilt offering a gift to start the university. Signed by the Secretary of the Central University Board of Trust, David C. Kelley this document lays out the foundation of the university.  Kelley, Bishop Holland Nimmons McTyeire and others had tried to raise money for years to establish a Methodist university in the South and with this gift they were able to begin what we now know as Vanderbilt University.

The letter is split in half and has been repaired through he years with cellophane tape.

Treatment: Remove tape, mend tear, rehouse.
