Rare first edition.  Published by Sylvia Beach, proprietor of a the small Parisian bookshop Shakespeare and Company. James came to Beach after trying, unsuccessfully, to serialize the book.  Beach immediately saw the genius in Ulysses and wrote to her mother that she might be about to publish “the most important book of the age.” She was not wrong in her assessment. All 1000 copies of the first edition were sold in the first month.  The novel is now recognized as the defining work of the modernist movement.

Treatment: Repair blue wrappers and construct a clam shell box to house it.
